A. The NLN Preparation Course for Certification as a
Nurse Educator
Presenter: Patricia A. Mahoney, MSN, RN, CNE
This workshop is an intensive, comprehensive review of the major
content areas of the test blueprint for the Certified Nurse Educatorcm
exam. It is designed to help potential candidates assess their level
of readiness and identify practice domains where further study may

B: Technical Assistance Workshop for Preparing Grants
for Title VIII Nursing ProgramsPresenter:
Irene Sandvold, DrPH, CNM, FACNM; Michele Richardson, MS, RN
This technical assistance workshop will provide information
on the programs administered by the US Department of Health and
Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau
of Health Profession, Division of Nursing. Dr. Sandvold will address
the Advanced Education Nursing, Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship,
Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship, Nurse Faculty Loan, and Comprehensive
Geriatric Education Programs. Ms. Richardson will discuss the Nursing
Workforce Diversity and Nurse Education, Practice and Retention
Programs.

C. Keys to Success in an Administrative Role
Presenter: Marilyn Brady, PhD, RN; Marion E. Broome, PhD,
RN, FAAN
At last year’s Summit, deans, directors, and chairs
who attended a luncheon with Dr. Malone requested that a workshop
be designed to help them be successful in their roles. This session
will explore some of the keys of effective leadership: fostering
good communication, creating healthy work environments, team building,
and garnering support to effect change. Two dynamic and successful
administrators from different types of academic environments will
explore the commonalities and differences of strategies they employ
to help them be successful in their roles.
D. Incorporating the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
into Nursing Students’ Clinical Experiences
Presenter: Mary Harper, MSN, RN-BC
In this highly interactive session, the presenter will
provide an overview of the various challenges and issues related
to students’ use of the electronicmedical record in their
clinical experiences. The training needs for both students and faculty
will be described. Participants will then discuss challenges, solutions,
and strategies with one another. Participants should come prepared
to share their own experiences of what works, what doesn’t
work, and what additional help they need.

E. Incorporating New Web Multimedia into Your Online
Course
Presenter: Jan Lars Buhmann, MS, RN-BC
Do you want to learn how to incorporate Web 2.0 technologies
into your online course? Bring your laptop to this hands-on workshop
and our presenter will teach you how to: 1) create elegant content
page templates; 2) capture, edit, and insert images; 3) create audio
podcasts; and 4) integrate (not just link to) YouTube videos into
your course. The presenter will provide free software, and you must
be willing to install these previously tested and virus-checked
software files onto your computer so you can practice using these
software tools. A laptop configured with Windows XP and MS Office
2003 or later is required.
Prerequisites: Experience teaching at least
one online course.
Proficiency operating your computer in a Windows environment, including
electronic file management.
