This course will provide an introduction to the principles of teaching. The course will discuss educational theories, teaching strategies and learning activities. Participants must have access to a group of learners and work with a preceptor in a teaching practicum. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
  • Write a teaching philosophy
  • Assess learning needs of a group of learners
  • Critique a curriculum plan
  • Write program, level, and course objectives
  • Develop and implement a lesson plan/unit of instruction
  • Select teaching strategies and learning activities
  • Use AV resources in the classroom
  • Facilitate learning for a group of students
  • Evaluate own teaching and receive feedback about teaching from preceptor and course faculty
  • Value the roles of learner and educator

Course 2:

Evaluation in Nursing

This course provides an overview of evaluation strategies. Participants will develop an evaluation plan and select evaluation strategies for a unit of instruction. Upon completion, participants.
  • Differentiate evaluation and assessment
  • Identify own evaluation philosophy
  • Use a model to develop an evaluation plan for a course
  • Assess learner's clinical practice
  • Assess learner's attainment of learning outcomes
  • Develop a variety of tests including an essay test and a multiple choice test
  • Design classroom assessment techniques
  • Assign grades

Course 3:

Computer Technology for Nurse Educators
(T619)

Available for 3 Academic Credits or 45 CE contact hours.

Instructor: Barbara Manz Friesth, DNS, RN

This course will acquaint the participant with a variety of computer technologies that support the teaching-learning process. The course will discuss principles of distance learning, use of the Internet in teaching and learning, and how to integrate computer technologies into the teaching-learning process. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify uses of computer technologies in education
  • Critique software for use in teaching and learning
  • Integrate software into lesson plans/educational programs
  • Use Internet resources to enhance learning
  • Identify social, ethical, legal and organizational issues influencing the use of computer technologies in nursing education

NLN Members:

Cost for contact hours is $695 (includes a member discount).

 

Non-NLN members:

Cost is $750 for an individual registration.

 

Group rates:

Available upon request. If enrolling as a group, all members must complete registration within 24 hours, once the group discount has been determined.

Academic Credit Hours Fees**
