Optimizing Clinical Learning
In this workshop participants will explore the development and implementation of high quality clinical learning experiences. The reasons for bringing students to clinical will be examined. Participants will also explore the development of quality objectives, goals, and outcomes, relate them to clinical activity expectations, and explore ways to promote their achievement. Issues related to implementation of clinical courses such as legal requirements, constraints of clinical sites, and student performance issues will be addressed.
Objectives:
- Discuss elements of a philosophy of clinical teaching.
- Investigate techniques for the development of clinical reasoning
and decision-making skills through clinical learning activities
- Relate course goals, clinical learning objectives, and clinical activities
to the evaluation process
- Discuss strategies for implementing clinical learning activities
- Design an effective clinical evaluation plan.
- Propose solutions to common clinical teaching and evaluation problems.
