Facilitate Learner Development and
Socialization (Core Competency 2):
Creative Nursing Education in the Classroom
This workshop provides nurse educators with over 30 strategies to use
in the classroom to inspire student learning The strategies are quick, easy
to implement, and can be transferred to a wide range of teaching topics. As
educators, we aspire to connect with our students and “turn them on”
to learning and to our content. The best way to accomplish this is to create
an active, learner-centered environment which captures each student’s
attention, helps students remember material, inspires critical thinking, and
is FUN! Creative strategies, integrated throughout learning environments, are
effective in increasing students’ attending to and retaining information.
This workshop may be combined with the Creative Nursing Education in Laboratory
and Clinical Settings workshop for a comprehensive nursing educational experience
for novice or experienced educators in schools of nursing, allied health programs,
or clinical settings.
Objectives:
- Describe over 30 new strategies to enhance classroom learning.
- List the advantages and disadvantages of innovative strategies.
- Analyze the use of innovative strategies in personal nursing educational
practice
