Background:
Faculty development can be facilitated through a variety of traditional and non-traditional programs. Such programs need to be developed to meet the ongoing learning needs of nurse educators in all types of academic programs as well as in the service setting. The NLN has a strong record of offering educational programs for faculty, but there is an opportunity for members of the organization to be involved more actively in this process.
Purpose of the Task Group:
The Task Group will be expected to collaborate with the Director of Research and Professional Development to propose and plan a wide array of programs that would help meet the lifelong learning needs of nurse educators in academic and service settings.
Specific Tasks to be Completed:
- Assist in planning Summit (e.g., identifying the theme and major speakers, issuing the "Call for Abstracts," reviewing abstracts, moderating concurrent sessions, etc.)
- Assist in planning the Faculty Development Institute (e.g., identifying "track" options and facilitators for each, preparing support materials, etc.)
- Assist in soliciting authors for online courses for faculty, journal articles that focus on nursing education, and manuscripts for nursing education-related books
- Assist in planning regional workshops or other types of programs for faculty
- Develop mechanisms to "spotlight" best practices among faculty
- Explore the possibility of implementing a certification program for nurse educators through the NLN
- Explore the possibility of implementing a Nurse Educator Academy through the NLN
- Make recommendations for long-range program planning
