President's Message    Advancing quality nursing education

The South Carolina League of Nursing (SCLN) is a constituent league of the National League for Nursing (NLN). The purpose is to support and implement the mission of the NLN to advance quality nursing education to meet the unique needs of diverse populations in an ever changing health care environment at the constituent level. Membership in the SCLN is open to anyone who is interested in fostering the development and improvement of nursing services or nursing education.

Annually, SCLN sponsors the Award for Excellence, which recognizes those who demonstrate excellence in nursing, awards scholarships to nursing students and co-sponsors a faculty development program with the South Carolina Council of Deans and Directors of Nursing Education. Individual members of SCLN are also eligible to receive a stipend to attend the national conference offered by NLN. In 2005, the SCLN has initiated an scholarship for a nursing faculty member who is working on a graduate degree.

In addition, this year we have added an Excellence in Teaching award. Members may nominate a colleague or self-nominate. Guides for these award are available on our website. Come and join us for the annual membership meeting and Awards banquet November 18, 2005 in Columbia, SC. Encourage your colleagues to attend with you. I look forward to meeting you at the annual meeting!
