Laerdal Simulation Study - NLN Member Schools Only

The National League for Nursing is pleased to enter into a strategic alliance with Laerdal, as described in the press release that was issued recently. With the support of Laerdal, the NLN will implement a national, multi-site, multi-method study that focuses on the use of simulation in nursing education. This project will be successful, however, only with the support and participation of some of our member schools, and it is in relation to that participation that we invite feedback from you now.

There are four documents we ask you to review, two of which are "calls" for your expression of interest. The first document is a call for nominations for a Project Director to provide leadership throughout this 3-year initiative. The responsibilities of the Project Director clearly describe the role we envision for this individual. There is a substantial salary allocated for this position, and the grant provides for travel expenses to the project sites, participation in project-related conferences, secretarial support, and other consultant support. Please consider nominating one of your faculty members who is interested in pedagogical research and who has the skills to lead this study by completing the Project Director Nomination Form and returning it, along with a copy of that individual's Curriculum Vitae, as directed.

You also are invited to offer your school as a site for this study. Each study site will be asked to designate a Project Coordinator whose responsibilities are outlined. A small honorarium will be awarded to each Project Coordinator, travel expenses to project-related conferences will be absorbed by the grant, and expenses related to all data collection tools will be covered. We hope you will be interested in having your school serve as a research study site, and ask that you complete the Project Site Interest Form and return it as directed.

NLN and Laerdal staff will review all nominations for the Project Director and make the appointment of that individual. The Project Director will then be involved, with NLN and Laerdal staff, to select the eight sites to participate in this project. Our hope is that all schools that submitted either or both forms will be notified of the outcome of our reviews by mid-April.

Thank you for your interest in participating in this exciting research study that focuses on teaching and learning. The NLN is proud to join with Laerdal to launch this initiative, and we look forward to your support of it. If you have any questions, please call Dr. Terry Valiga at 212-812-0383. We hope to hear from you by the date noted on each response form.
