The biographical and consent form includes check boxes for all positions that are open in this year's elections. We encourage you to check all positions that you wish to be considered for. Multiple selections provide the Nominations Committee with more options and flexibility as they select candidates for the 2009 ballot. NLN elections will take place from June to September 2010. If you are chosen for the ballot, you will be notified. All elected candidates should be ready and able to take office during the 2010 Annual Business Meeting at the NLN Education Summit in Las Vegas, NV.

The Nominations Process
The NLN Nominations Committee reviews all recommendations received from individual members, agency members, and the constituent leagues, and prepares a slate of candidates for election each year. The Nominations Committee is especially interested in reviewing recommendations that will ensure that the NLN, its subsidiary boards, and its advisory councils have a breadth of experience in national and international policy discussions on nursing, health, and higher education; a deep understanding of our society's multiculturalism; and a demonstrated expertise in public/private approaches to creative systems of health care delivery

NLN Board of Governors
The NLN Board of Governors is a special group of diverse individuals who share the goal of promoting excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce. Members of the board assume significant responsibility for all aspects of the organization - shaping our vision, developing our policies, advancing our mission and goals, ensuring our growth.

NLN Advisory Councils
The NLN's advisory councils provide guidance and support to the Board of Governors. Advisory councils are formed to achieve the goals and objectives of the NLN Strategic Plan. The advisory councils accomplish their work through the appointment of task groups. An NLN member may become involved in any advisory council and contribute to its work by participating on a task group or by being elected as a member. Advisory council members are elected for three-year positions and the chair-elect is elected for two years with the commitment to serve an additional two years as chair.

NLN Certification Commission  *Required: Applicant must hold CNE credential.
The NLN Certification Commission oversees and supervises the NLN Academic Nurse Educator Certification Programs. The commission serves as an independent and autonomous body within the NLN. Among other authorities, the commission is solely responsible for all Certification Program policies and decisions related to: certification and recertification eligibility standards; examinations and other assessment instruments; budget development, consistent with NLN policies; program planning; document and information retention; fees; selection and supervision of qualified personnel; and, program resource allocation. All policies and procedures for the Certification Program shall be determined by the Certification Commission and reported to the NLN Board of Governors.

Time Commitment
For Board of Governors members, there are two face-to-face meetings per year along with a couple of conference calls. For advisory councils, there is one face-to-face meeting per year along with a couple of conference calls. For the Nominations Committee, there is one face-to-face meeting per year and one conference call. Lastly, the NLN Certification Commission holds at least two regular meetings each year. All travel expenses are reimbursed by the NLN -- this includes airfare/train, personal auto, parking, tolls, meals, taxis, lodging, rental car, and miscellaneous expenses such as luggage tips.
