| Competencies for NLN elected positions
The competencies used by the Nominations Committee to evaluate candidates are:
- Leadership experience
- Program knowledge relevant to the NLN
- Management experience
- Financial experience
- Fund raising experience
- Marketing/public relations experience
- Communications skills
- National governance experience
- Regional governance experience
- Strategic planning
- Collaborative experience
- National recognition (e.g., Certification, Academies, Honor Societies)
- NLN/constituent league experience
- Commitment to the NLN
Candidates nominated for officer positions on the board (pres.-elect, treasurer, or secretary) are recommended to have:
- Demonstrated past experience and leadership positions in the NLN - Board of Governors, advisory councils, and/or constituent leagues.
- Current service in one of these positions does not preclude one from being nominated.
Additional criteria used by the Nominations Committee to evaluate candidates are:
- Geographic representation
- Representation from different types of nursing educational programs
- Agency or individual membership in the NLN
- Candidates in all age cohorts
- Racial and gender diversity
