Competencies for NLN elected positions

The competencies used by the Nominations Committee to evaluate candidates are:

  • Leadership experience
  • Program knowledge relevant to the NLN
  • Management experience
  • Financial experience
  • Fund raising experience
  • Marketing/public relations experience
  • Communications skills
  • National governance experience
  • Regional governance experience
  • Strategic planning
  • Collaborative experience
  • National recognition (e.g., Certification, Academies, Honor Societies)
  • NLN/constituent league experience
  • Commitment to the NLN

Candidates nominated for officer positions on the board (pres.-elect, treasurer, or secretary) are recommended to have:

  • Demonstrated past experience and leadership positions in the NLN - Board of Governors, advisory councils, and/or constituent leagues.
  • Current service in one of these positions does not preclude one from being nominated.

Additional criteria used by the Nominations Committee to evaluate candidates are:

  • Geographic representation
  • Representation from different types of nursing educational programs
  • Agency or individual membership in the NLN
  • Candidates in all age cohorts
  • Racial and gender diversity
