Spring 2016

cnea-connection-header

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to provide the most recent update on the NLN CNEA’s progress toward accrediting nursing programs. We are excited to tell you about all that’s been happening at CNEA during the first few months of 2016.

The NLN Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation is proud to announce the finalized standards of accreditation, effective February 2016. Capping a meticulous process, the NLN CNEA Board of Commissioners has voted to approve the new Standards of Accreditation for nursing programs across the academic spectrum. These standards, crafted from evidence-based best practices, set a high benchmark for nursing programs around the globe.

The NLN CNEA Board has also released the first draft of policies for public review and feedback. The CNEA invites your feedback on the initial public posting of the following proposed NLN CNEA policies. Additional policies and procedures will be forthcoming in April 2016 as we continue to develop, implement, and evaluate our accreditation activities.

The following policy documents are currently available for public review and feedback until March 25, 2016. Each draft policy is posted on the NLN CNEA website.

bullet NLN CNEA Pre-Accreditation Candidacy Policy February 2016 DRAFT
bullet NLN CNEA Initial Accreditation Policy February 2016 DRAFT
bullet NLN CNEA Continuing Accreditation Policy February 2016 DRAFT
bullet NLN CNEA Substantive Change Policy February 2016 DRAFT

The NLN CNEA Board of Commissioners looks forward to receiving your comments and will review all feedback subsequent to further revision of the policies. Please submit your comments via this response form before March 25, 2016.

Additionally, the NLN CNEA Board of Commissioners has set deadline dates for receipt of pre-accreditation candidacy applications in 2016. There is more information about the process below. As always, please feel free to contact Andrea Browning or me with any questions you might have.

All best wishes,

NLN CNEA WORKSHOP ON APRIL 29

The NLN Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation is planning a full-day “how-to” workshop on Friday, April 29 in Washington, DC. Faculty will learn to develop a systematic evaluation plan that is realistic, standards-driven, and helpful in preparing nursing programs to engage in the NLN CNEA accreditation process.

In this hands-on experience led by NLN CNEA executive director Judith Halstead, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, special focus will be placed on the NLN CNEA standards, the evaluation process, and how to develop quality-focused program, faculty, and student outcomes for nursing programs of all types. When focused on continuous quality improvement, the process of evaluating a nursing program and pursuing accreditation can be a rewarding experience for faculty and administrators.

Workshop learning outcomes:
bullet Define continuous quality improvement and how it relates to program evaluation and the NLN CNEA accreditation process.
bullet Describe the development and use of program systematic evaluation plans to prepare for accreditation.
bullet Explain how to set expected program outcomes and benchmark achievement indicators for a systematic evaluation plan.
bullet Relate the NLN CNEA accreditation standards to systematic program evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
“The ABCs of Program Systematic Evaluation Plans: Getting Started” will take place Friday, April 29 from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm at the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Barbara Jordan Conference Center in Washington, DC. Click here for additional information and to register.
