I begin my first
year as President of the Pennsylvania League for Nursing (PLN)
with many emotions. First, there is the fear of what lies ahead
for nursing and healthcare as Health Care Reform becomes a reality.
Second, there is excitement and honor. My Board of Directors,
President-elect, and Past President are very supportive of me
and the endeavors of the PLN.
“The Voice for Nursing Education in Pennsylvania”
continues to be the focus of the PLN. This is accomplished in
the following ways:
The three (3) geographic regions or areas that make up
the PLN present programs in the fall and spring. Once a year
in the spring, one of the areas hosts a state-wide program.
These programs provide exposure for the membership and others
to current issues in nursing education and healthcare.
Every other year nominations are called for a Faculty Award.
All levels of nursing are represented from LPN to Doctoral
degrees. Peers submit nominations and recipients are chosen
by the Selection Committee. The recipient and dean/director
are invited to one of the area programs and presented with
a monetary award, plaque, and appreciation of their leadership
and model behavior.
The PLN upholds the mission of the National League for
Nursing at the state level by keeping the membership informed
of national and state-wide political issues.
The PLN Board and I invite not only nurse educators, but ALL
nurses to become members of the PLN. Many voices are better heard
than just one.
