President's Message
Dr. Regina Bentley

Welcome to the Alabama League for Nursing (ALN) website. We are delighted that you have chosen to visit our site and hope that you will find it beneficial for your career goals. The ALN is a recognized affiliate of the national League for Nursing (NLN). As a constituent league the purpose of the ALN is to support and implement the mission of the National League for Nursing, Inc. (NLN) to advance quality nursing education to meet the needs of diverse populations in an ever changing health care environment. Membership is open to any person interested in fostering the development and improvement of nursing services or nursing education.

The ALN supports Nursing education in Alabama in several ways.

  1. A Community Project Seed Grant is awarded each year. The purpose of this grant is to provide seed monies to projects designed for promoting access to information and resources that will enhance the positive health status of diverse communities and individuals. Projects may focus on professional and/or consumer populations. One award of $750 is awarded.
  2. The Excellence in Teaching Award is a mechanism whereby educators may be recognized for the development and implementation of innovative teaching strategies employed in a variety of settings. The emphasis is placed on projects using outcome measures and other therapeutic nursing interventions.
  3. The ALN Lamplighter Award Program wishes to recognize individuals who strive to meet the goals of the League in an exemplary manner. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding individuals who have demonstrated exemplary performance in the nursing profession or individuals who have been made a substantial contribution to the cause of securing a better society.
  4. There are many leadership opportunities through participation on the many committees of the League. These include the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Nominating Committee, Awards Committee, and the Annual Planning Committee.
  5. Continuing Education is offered through the Annual meeting which is held in the spring. The group sponsors recognized speakers to provide exposure to contemporary issues. The ability to network with other educators presents valuable opportunities to discuss topics of concern.

Nursing is the largest group in the healthcare industry and working together we can have a major impact on issues that affect nursing. ALN joins with other groups in the state to address nursing education policy. There is representation with the Alabama State Nurses Association, Alabama Association of Nursing Student's, American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), Alabama Hospital Association (ALAHA), and Alabama Council of Administrators of Professional Nursing Education Program (ACAPNEP).

You are invited to become involved with ALN. Please browse though the website for further details of the organization and opportunities for your involvement. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at bentlrl@auburn.edu, or by phone at (334) 844-6756.
