Alabama League for Nursing President’s Message
Reitha Cabaniss, MSN, RN, CNE
I
am excited you have chosen to visit the Alabama League for Nursing (ALN)
website. The ALN is recognized as an affiliate of the National League for
Nursing (NLN). The purpose of the ALN is to support and implement the mission
of the National League for Nursing, Inc. which is to advance the quality
of nursing education to meet the unique needs of diverse populations in
an ever changing health care environment at the constituent level. Membership
is open to persons interested in fostering the development and improvement
of nursing services or nursing education.
The ALN supports Nursing education in Alabama in several ways.
The Excellence in Teaching Award is a mechanism whereby educators may
be recognized for the development and implementation of innovative teaching
strategies employed in a variety of settings. The emphasis is placed on
projects using outcome measures and other therapeutic nursing interventions.
The ALN Lamplighter Award Program wishes to recognize individuals who
strive to meet the goals of the League in an exemplary manner. Its purpose
is to recognize outstanding individuals who have demonstrated exemplary
performance in the nursing profession or individuals who have been made
a substantial contribution to the cause of securing a better society.
There are many leadership opportunities through participation on the
many committees of the League. These include the Executive Committee,
Finance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Nominating Committee,
Awards Committee, and the Annual Planning Committee.
Continuing Education is offered through the Annual meeting held in
the spring. The group sponsors recognized speakers to provide exposure
to contemporary issues. The ability to network with other educators presents
valuable opportunities to discuss topics of concern.
Scholarship opportunities toward the cost of the Certified Nurse Educator
(CNE) exam offered through the National League for Nursing (NLN). More
information about the exam can be obtained at the NLN website www.nln.org.
ALN joins with other nursing groups at the local and state level to
address nursing and nursing education policy. Representation includes
Alabama Council of Administrators of Professional Nursing Education Program
(ACAPNEP), Nursing Organization Coalition, Birmingham Regional Organization
of Nurse Leaders (BRONL), and others as requested.
If you are not already a member, please take this opportunity to consider
joining ALN today to make a difference in nursing education now. Membership
and participation in ALN is a great way to be involved in a professional organization
that supports nursing educators and quality nursing education at all levels.
