Copyright Permission

National League for Nursing - Publications

NLN Books
If you wish to use extensive quotes, figures, tables, or other material from any publication for which the NLN holds copyright (“NLN publications”), you must obtain written permission to do so. In most instances, requests for permission are approved within 2 weeks of their receipt. Requests to use material from NLN publications in academic courses typically are approved with no fees. Requests to use such material in books that will be sold through an organization or publisher typically are approved upon payment of a fee; the amount of the fee depends on the extensiveness of the NLN material to be reproduced.

To request copyright permission, please submit a letter, fax, or e-mail to Dr. Terry Valiga, Chief Program Officer, National League for Nursing, 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, NY 10006 … 212.812.0393 (Fax) … tvaliga@nln.org

Your request must include (a) the complete citation for the original work in which the quote, figure, table, etc. appears; (b) the exact material you wish to use and the page number(s) on which that material appears (e.g., Table 1, Issues in Nursing Education, page 12); (c) the name and number of the course(s) in which this material will be used or the name and author(s) of the book to be published; and, as appropriate, (d) the number of students enrolled in the course(s), the term(s) in which the course(s) will be taught, and the name of the course professor(s). Generally permission is granted for no more than one academic year or one edition of a book, and requests to use the same material in subsequent years or editions must be submitted anew.

You will receive a written response regarding your request, including any “caveats” that must be respected. In addition, if a fee is charged, you will receive an invoice that is expected to be paid within 30 days. If your request is denied, you will receive an explanation for that decision.

NLN/Jones & Bartlett Books
Any NLN/J&B books that are available through Jones & Bartlett Publishers that have a publication date of 1998 or later are the copyright property of Jones & Bartlett, and copyright permission to use material from those books must be obtained from J&B. Please visit http://www.jbpub.com/contact/permissions.htm for how to do this.

Any NLN/J&B books that are available through Jones & Bartlett Publishers and have a publication date prior to 1998 are the copyrighted property of the National League for Nursing. You are asked to follow the procedure outlined for NLN Books when requesting copyright permission.

NLN Journal
To photocopy, reprint, or import into an electronic format any article in the NLN journal, now titled Nursing Education Perspectives, please contact the Copyright Clearance Center, Inc., 222 Rosewood Drive, Danvers, MA 01923; 978.750.8400; www.copyright.com. Please note that Nursing Education Perspectives was formerly known as Nursing and Health Care Perspectives, N&HC: Perspectives on the Community, and Nursing and Health Care. All titles are the copyright property of the National League for Nursing.

NLN Videos
If you wish to reproduce an NLN video in a digitized format, you must obtain written permission to do so. In most instances, requests for permission are approved within 2 weeks of their receipt. Requests to digitize NLN videos for use with online/distance education students enrolled in academic courses typically are approved with no fees. Requests to use such material for other purposes, if approved, typically are approved upon payment of a fee; the amount of the fee depends on the extensiveness of the NLN material to be reproduced.

Your request must include (a) the exact title of the video and the year it was produced; (b) the name and number of the course(s) in which this material will be used; and, (c) the number of students enrolled in the course(s), the term(s) in which the course(s) will be taught, and the name of the course professor(s).
