Curricula Implications: Imformatics and Social Networking Audio Web Seminar
A 2010 survey of State BONs conducted by NCSBN reported that 33 of the 46 respondents had received complaints of nurses who had violated patient privacy by posting photos or information about patients on social networking sites. As demonstrated by this survey nursing schools must respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by social networking applications. Series B: Interprofessional Education: Preparing Learners to be Collaboration Ready Audio Web Seminar
Since the IOM reports, healthcare educators have been considering ways to provide interprofessional education (IPE). IPE is described in many ways: from discussions within courses to professionals taking classes together. In order for healthcare practitioners to be prepared for effective interprofessional communication and collaboration, they must be able to recognize and appreciate the roles and contributions of each profession. While there is evidence that interprofessional collaboration reduces clinical errors and improves patient outcomes, there is a paucity of curriculum demonstrating how to implement interprofessional education during undergraduate education. Immersive educational experiences must be integral to professional educational experiences and should include opportunities to rehearse communication techniques in experiential learning activities s

Series C: Putting Leadership Back into Strategy Audio Web Seminar
The RWJ funded IOM Report on the Future of Nursing (2010) calls for transforming leadership in a collaborative environment. One of the three key messages from the report is that nurses should be full partners, with physicians and other health care professionals, in providing strong leadership if the vision of a transformed health care system is to be realized. Yet, the report points out, not all nurses have experience with leadership development and with executing a plan to create a vision for their organization. Nurses must be leaders in the design, implementation, and evaluation of, as well as advocacy for, the ongoing reforms to the educational and practice environments where nurses work. Nursing Leadership is needed at every level and across all settings. Because of this focus, the NLN has created this webinar series to bring leadership essential key leanings to nurses, both in education and practice.
