CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN with the Technology Experts in the City Edgar Allan Poe Called Home!

The 4th NLN Technology Conference showcases state-of-the-art applications of simulation, e-learning, informatics, and telehealth in presentations delivered by nationally and internationally acclaimed speakers. Join us as Patti Abbott discusses current federal initiatives, what it means for nursing, and implications for nursing education. Take a walk in Second Life with Diane Skiba and Judy Warren. Listen to Pam Jeffries discuss three challenges to implementing simulation: Framing, Facilitation, and Faculty. Learn about the federally funded HRSA HITS Scholar Program and the accomplishments of the first two groups of scholars in the HITS/HRSA grant program.

These plenary sessions, along with our concurrent sessions, will keep you current in these rapidly evolving so you can prepare your students to function in today’s technology-rich health care environment.

Objectives

  • Discuss federal initiatives in informatics and their impact on nursing and nursing education.

  • Implement the recommendations of the NLN's position statement: Preparing the Next Generation of Nurses to Practice in a Technology-rich Environment: An Informatics Agenda
  • Incorporate e-learning into classroom and clinical experiences
  • Plan strategies to encourage faculty to embrace simulation as a teaching/learning strategy
  • Create a nurturing environment for effective integration of informatics, telehealth, and simulation in the nursing curriculum.
  • Describe how schools are using Second Life and social networking.
  • Discuss the purpose and goals of the HRSA funded Health Information Technology grant, and the accomplishments of the first two cohorts of scholars
