Keynote Speaker

Eileen Zungolo, EdD, RN, CNE, FAAN, ANEF

Dr. Eileen Zungolo is Dean and Professor of Nursing, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. Her career has included a number of years in clinical practice and over 30 years in higher education. Accomplishments of note include the establishment of the first, and still only, master’s program in nursing in the state of Idaho (1975-1980), and the development of one of the nation’s first comprehensive, community based curriculum, in collaboration with the community of Boston (Northeastern University (1989-2002).

Dr. Zungolo has served many national and regional professional organizations, and has served as a program evaluator for NLNAC for many years. Dr. Zungolo has served on the NLN Board of Directors as President-elect and President. She recently co-chaired the NLN/NLNAC Task Force on Global Nursing Education, and now serves as Chairs on the NLN Awards committee and the NLN Certification Committee. A member of the American Academy of Nursing she presently serves as a member of the Board of Directors Dr. Zungolo has also served on a number of committees for the AACN including the landmark document on Masters education – Essentials of Masters Education in nursing, and the clinical education document – Essential Clinical Resources for Nursing’s Academic Mission. Over the course of her career she has received many awards and honors, including a Fulbright Scholarship to Thailand. An award in which she takes much pride is the receipt of the Leader of Leaders award from the National Student Nurses Association in 2005. In 2007, Dr. Zungolo was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education.
