of Nursing Faculty Tool Kit©
The NLN Task Group on Healthful Work Environments is proud to introduce
the Mentoring of Nursing Faculty Tool Kit, an extension
of the work of the Task Group on Recruitment and Retention of Faculty
and an outgrowth of the 2006 Mentoring of Nurse Faculty position
statement. The Mentoring of Nurse Faculty position statement
included a recommendation for the NLN to develop a “Tool Kit”
to promote enacting mentoring among nurse faculty.
The Mentoring of Nursing Faculty Tool Kit is comprised of a series
of questions to cultivate reflective assessment of mentoring practices
in nursing units and includes examples of literature references
and online resources that provide further information about mentoring
in a variety of areas. Individuals may be interested in using the
tool kit as a guide when seeking a mentor, or a protégé,
while faculty groups or nursing education administrators may find
the tool kit useful in developing and assessing mentoring programs
at their institutions. Overall, the tool kit is a resource designed
to enhance healthful work environments that support educators in
their work and contribute to the recruitment and retention of nurse
faculty.

of the NLN’s Mentoring of Nursing Faculty Tool Kit (available
for your personal reading only). An electronic format of the tool
kit (available as a Word document) contains active links to online
resources, and with permission from the NLN can be modified as the
user chooses. To request copyright permission to duplicate, modify,
or expand use of the tool kit for other than personal reading, complete
the Request for
Permission to Duplicate, Modify or Expand Use of the Mentoring of
Nursing Faculty Tool Kit and send via mail, fax or email to
National League for Nursing, 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York,
NY 10006, 212-812-0391 (fax), publications@nln.org.
In most instances, requests for permission will be approved within
two weeks of receipt. Use of the tool kit for nursing education
research or for duplication by NLN member schools and NLN members
is usually approved at no cost. Non-member schools, individuals
and organizations or publishers wishing to reproduce the tool kit
in books or electronic media will be charged a fee for copyright
permission based on intended use. Each individual submitting a copyright
request will receive a written response, including citation requirements
and an invoice (when a copyright permission fee is required). The
fee must be paid in full before the electronic version of the tool
kit will be provided. If a request is denied, an explanation will
be provided.
