DESCRIPTION
The content in this workshop will be presented in a variety of teaching strategies. Lecture and discussion will be used to review the basic legal principles of each section. Since the content is legal based, a variety of applicable case law will be reviewed. The case law will be applied to the issues and the general examples provided by the attendees. Questioning (and questions/answers) will be used to clarify content and address content application.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  • Explore the various sources of law that directly impact nursing education
  • Discuss common areas of legal concern for nursing practice
  • Analyze typical admission policies affecting nursing education
  • Examine strategies nurse educators can implement with progression policies applicable in both theory and clinical nursing education
  • Analyze typical graduation (or program completion) policies according to their legal basis
  • Explore special issues associated with international students and students with illegal alien status
  • Review emerging issues facing nurse educators
