The National League for Nursing & the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) co-sponsored Workshop

Narrative Pedagogy: More Than Just Telling Stories
NYSNA Conference Center, Latham, NY
July 31 - August 1, 2008
July 31 (1 - 4pm) & August 1(8:30am - 4:30pm)

This workshop will explore Narrative Pedagogy as more than a teaching strategy, i.e. Narrative Pedagogy is a student-centered approach to teaching/learning, which fosters new ways of thinking, practicing, teaching and learning. We will demonstrate how to write stories, and how to interpret stories from multiple perspectives. We will create small group activities in which participants are given the opportunity to interpret stories both as learners and as teachers.

We will also discuss how to create non-narrative assignments that actively engage students in learning. Concrete examples of narrative and non-narrative assignments will be distributed.

  • Demonstrate how the Concernful Practices are enacted
  • Experience how Narrative Pedagogy fosters multiperspectival thinking
