Strengthen Your Core: How to Apply Core Competencies to a Curriculum

DESCRIPTION
This workshop is designed to demonstrate how the nurse educator
can incorporate the Outcomes and Competencies for Graduates
of Practical/Vocational, Diploma, Associate Degree, Baccalaureate,
Master’s, Practice Doctorate, and Research Doctorate Programs
in Nursing into all aspects of the curriculum, from the philosophy
to unit and clinical objectives and competencies. Implications
of the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report, The Future
of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, for curriculum
development will also be explored.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
- Describe the components of the NLN
Education Competencies Model.
- Discuss the integration of the components
of the NLN Education Competencies Model into existing
or new curricula.
- Explore collaboration with practice partners to ensure
that curricula reflect contemporary nursing practice.
- Determine the implications of the recommendations
of the IOM report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change,
Advancing Health, for nursing education.
