DESCRIPTION The National League for Nursing and American Association of
Colleges of Nursing recently called for a transformation in current
nursing curricula. Numerous national initiatives and research
findings indicate a need for drastic change in the way that students
are prepared to become safe, novice nurse generalists. This workshop
explores the changes that are needed and how to begin making them.
Specific focus will be on how to move from a disease-based model
to a nursing model and how to use concepts in an organizing framework.
Newer pedagogies to learn and understand concepts to make appropriate
and timely clinical decisions will also be discussed.
