| NLN Advanced Simulation Workshop
Pre-Conference Workshop
The 4th NLN Technology Conference
Johns Hopkins University
Baltimore, Maryland
October 29, 2009 (1:00pm - 4:30pm)
October 30, 2009 (8:30am to 12pm)
DESCRIPTION
This workshop is intended for those who have implemented basic
simulation scenarios and wish to develop advanced skills. During
this 6 hour workshop you will learn how to analyze your own curriculum
for concepts and threads, then integrate those concepts and threads
into simulations throughout the curriculum. Faculty will also
discuss the design of simulations that provide experience with
delegation, care of multiple patients, and functioning as part
of a multidisciplinary team. Advanced debriefing techniques will
be covered, along with the use of standardized patients and Objective
Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE).
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
- Identify concepts and threads
in your curriculum
- Plan simulations that incorporate curricular concepts
and threads
- Design a simulation that focuses on delegation
and care of multiple patients
- Design an interdisciplinary simulation
- Discuss the challenges and solutions for conducting
a simulation outside of the simulation center (e.g. classrooms,
in situ, online, etc.)
- Discuss different scheduling approaches when integrating
simulations into your nursing clinical courses
- Describe the use of standardized patients and an
Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) to evaluate
nursing skills, knowledge, and decision making
- Restate debriefing's essential place in a simulated
experience
- Implement techniques and models specific to advanced
skills in debriefing.
This workshop addresses the following Core
Competencies for Nurse Educators©.
