October 30, 2009 (8:30am to 12pm)

DESCRIPTION
This workshop is intended for those who are new to the design and development of simulations. During this 6 hour workshop you will see a state of the art simulation center, a variety of simulation equipment, and demonstrations of scenarios using a patient simulator. Content will address the basic design and development of simulations, using a template, and will offer practical advice on implementation.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  • Differentiate among features of low, medium and high fidelity simulators.
  • Propose 5 or more advantages to using simulation as a teaching/learning tool.
  • Develop a simulation scenario using a template.
  • Outline a plan for the implementation of simulation scenario.
  • Examine current practices and research regarding the implementation of simulation in the laboratory and the classroom
  • Compare the strategies of debriefing and guided reflection
  • Explain how to integrate debriefing and guided reflection into a simulated experience.
  • Plan optimal space requirements for a simulation lab/center.
  • Construct strategies for addressing possible pitfalls and problems when implementing a simulation scenario.
