NLN Basic Simulation Workshop
Pre-Conference Workshop
The 4th NLN Technology Conference
Johns Hopkins University
Baltimore, Maryland
October 29, 2009 (1:00pm - 4:30pm)
October 30, 2009 (8:30am to 12pm)
DESCRIPTION This workshop is intended for those who are new to the design
and development of simulations. During this 6 hour workshop you
will see a state of the art simulation center, a variety of simulation
equipment, and demonstrations of scenarios using a patient simulator.
Content will address the basic design and development of simulations,
using a template, and will offer practical advice on implementation.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
Differentiate among features of low,
medium and high fidelity simulators.
Propose 5 or more advantages to using
simulation as a teaching/learning tool.
Develop a simulation scenario using a
template.
Outline a plan for the implementation
of simulation scenario.
Examine current practices and research
regarding the implementation of simulation in the laboratory
and the classroom
Compare the strategies of debriefing
and guided reflection
Explain how to integrate debriefing and
guided reflection into a simulated experience.
Plan optimal space requirements for a
simulation lab/center.
Construct strategies for addressing possible
pitfalls and problems when implementing a simulation scenario.
