Diane M. Billings, EdD, RN, FAAN
Dr.
Diane Billings has been a nurse educator for 40 years. She has
been a mentor to junior faculty and assisted with career planning.
Dr. Billings is a funded researcher and has written successful
grants. In addition she has authored a book about teaching in
nursing. Dr. Billings has published widely on the use of technology
in nursing education. Dr. Billings is also the recipient of
the NLN Educator Award! |

Lori Candela, RN, EdD, MS
Dr.
Lori Candela is an associate professor and Chair of the Psychosocial
Nursing Department in the School of Nursing. She is also the
Education Coordinator for the Graduate Nursing Program at UNLV.
She has 15 years of teaching experience at the associate degree,
baccalaureate, RN-to-BSN, MSN, and PhD levels. Dr. Candela has
chaired thesis, professional paper and dissertation committees.
Dr. Candela is currently the Project Manager and Director of
a $710,000 HRSA Grant: Enhancing Access and Quality in a Online
PhD Nursing Program which was fully funded in July of 2007.
Currently, Dr. Candela is a co-investigator on an internally
funded study to develop learning modules on interpersonal conflict
among nurses. She has led the UNLV nursing faculty through a
major undergraduate curriculum revision.
Dr. Candela was in the first group in the United States to
become certified through the National League for Nursing as
a Certified Nurse Educator. Additionally, Dr. Candela has
developed suture certification courses for medics, student
nursing orientation programs, and NCLEX-RN review programs.
Dr. Candela has over 15 peer reviewed publications as well
as two book chapters. She is a reviewer for two nursing journals
and is an editorial board member for the Journal of Nursing
Education. Also, she is a sentinel reader for the McMaster
Online Rating of Evidence (MORE) Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN)
system. In 2008, Dr. Candela was honored as a Nevada Health
Care Hero in the category of educatorIn 1999, she was honored
to receive an award as Master Teacher from the National Institute
of Staff and Organizational Development Austin Texas.

Linda Caputi, RN, MSN, EdD, CNE
Dr.
Caputi is certified as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) from
the National League for Nursing. She has authored over 25 educational
multimedia programs, nursing education books, produced and developed
videotapes, and published book chapters, journal articles, and
board games for nursing education. She is editor of the second
edition (2010) of Teaching Nursing: The Art and Science (Volumes
1, 2, & 3), and coauthor of Teaching Nursing: The Art and
Science, It’s All About Student Success (Volume 4). She
serves on the editoral staff for Nursing Education Perspectives,
as the editor of the column QuickReads, a publication of the
National League for Nursing.
Linda has presented her work nationally for over 15 years
on many nursing education topics. Her work has won six awards
from Sigma Theta Tau, two from American Journal of Nursing
Company, and one from The Association for Educational Communication
and Technology. Dr. Caputi was acknowledged for teaching excellence
in the 1998, 2002, and 2005 editions of Who's Who Among America's
Teachers and the 2008 edition of Who’s Who in Nursing.
Dr. Caputi was named Educator of the Year for 2004 by the
National Organization of Associate Degree Nursing. She has
recently served on the Board of Governors for the National
League for Nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International
Honor Society of Nursing. She was an invited member to the
National League for Nursing’s Think Tank on Transformation
of Clinical Instruction.
She is Professor Emeritus at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn,
Illinois with over 25 years of teaching experience. She currently
teaches online Masters in Nursing Education courses. Dr. Caputi
is a consultant to undergraduate nursing programs in the areas
of curriculum, student success, NCLEX success, and effective
teaching strategies in the classroom, the nursing laboratory,
and clinical. She has developed curricula for Practical Nursing,
Associate Degree Nursing, Baccalaureate Nursing, and RN to
BSN programs.

Karen Grigsby, PhD, RN
Dr.
Karen Grigsby is Associate Professor & Chair, Families &
Health Systems, Department & Coordinator, Nursing Administration
Specialty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC),
College of Nursing - Omaha Division. Since joining the UNMC
College of Nursing she has been a member or chair of task forces
and committees engaged in undergraduate and graduate curriculum
review, revision, and course development. Dr. Grigsby understands
nursing science, health care environment, & issues faced
by health care professionals/organizations. She is a leader
in curriculum development and revision and identifies essential
skills and curricular content needed by the professional nurse
who works in management, administration, or executive leadership
positions. Demonstration of this expertise includes: shared
leadership in revising the master’s level Nursing Administration
program to prepare graduates for leadership in creating &
maintaining health care delivery systems & infrastructures.
development of & teaching the first qualitative research
course offered at UNMC with Dr. Donna Westmoreland; introduction
of the discipline of dialogue, with Dr. Donna Westmoreland,
in master’s level courses; its applicability in developing
nursing science; and its usefulness to nursing administrators.
Dr. Grigsby makes classroom content and assignments relevant
to students from a variety of disciplines. Her research focus,
professional background, and areas of continuing education contribute
to innovative classroom teaching strategies that promote intellectual
and personal development of graduate/undergraduate students.
Students evaluate her positively for creating an environment
that facilitates discussion, respecting diverse opinions, and
promoting independent thinking.

Judith W. Herrman, PhD, RN
As
a nurse educator for almost 20 years, Dr. Herrman has always
been interested in incorporating creative teaching strategies
in nursing education and staff development. Her quest to supplement
traditional teaching methods (lecture and clinical supervision)
with innovative methods has led to the publication of several
articles, a book (in press), and many speaking engagements.
In this class she provides participants with valuable strategies
to incorporate into their personal teaching portfolios. |

Nancy C. Sharts-Hopko, PhD, RN, FAAN
Nancy
Sharts-Hopko has been a a nurse educator in the United States
and overseas for over 30 years. She earned her master’s
degree, from New York University, in Nursing Education with
a minor in Higher Education. Dr. Sharts-Hopko has conducted
evaluation research as part of her academic role over the years.
She attained the highest professorial rank and has been honored
for her outstanding faculty service to the University of Villanova.
Dr. Sharts-Hopko has an unusual grasp of how the academic units
fit and the role of faculty within the institution as a whole.
Since 2003 she has directed the Doctoral Program in the Nursing
at Villanova University, a degree program with an emphasis on
the preparation of nurse educators. In that program she teaches
the course, American Higher Education. She has served the NLN
in a number of capacities since 1999, including participation
as a member of the Task Group on Recruitment and Retention of
Nursing Faculty, 2001-2003, the Certification Governance and
Policy & Procedure Committee, 2004-2006, and the Nurse Educator
Certification Council, 2006-present. |
