IMMERSION TRACK 1
Building Competence in Novice and Early-Career Nurse Educators:
Evidence-based Classroom & Clinical Teaching & Evaluation
Objectives:
- Expand the theoretical and evidence-based foundation
from which teaching/learning and evaluation methods are designed
- Analyze the relationships among learning objectives,
teaching/learning experiences, best practices of education (Chickering
& Gamson), student characteristics, the evaluation process,
and learning outcomes
- Use available evidence to design innovative
teaching/learning strategies, particularly those that will facilitate
critical thinking and clinical judgment
- Appreciate that a multiplicity of evaluation
strategies is needed to provide a complete picture of learners’
abilities
- Explore a variety of innovative and evidence-based
means to evaluate learner outcomes
- Formulate a personal plan to improve and measure
one’s effectiveness as a nurse educator, particularly
in relation to the use of evidence-based teaching/learning and
evaluation practices
- Implement a selected learner-centered teaching
strategy on an assigned topic

IMMERSION TRACK 2
Advancing Competence in Mid-Career Nurse Educators: Evidence-based
Curriculum Development
Objectives:
- Discuss how a vision of a preferred future
for nursing influences curriculum design and implementation
- Propose strategies to insure a successful curriculum
revision process in your own setting
- Propose strategies to create educational climates
that promote excellence, innovation, and growth in diverse learners
and teachers
- Use available evidence to design innovative
nursing curricula
- Critique the various components of a nursing
curriculum in relation to (a) available evidence, and (b) their
potential to promote innovation and excellence
- Apply evidence to design a curriculum evaluation plan that
is comprehensive, relevant, and that generates data useful to
ongoing curriculum enhancement
- Formulate a personal plan to improve and measure
one’s effectiveness as a nurse educator, particularly
in relation to the design and evaluation of innovative curricula
- Suggest changes to the curriculum at your institution based
on application of principles

IMMERSION TRACK 3
Expanding Expertise of Experienced Nurse Educators: Advancing the
Science of Nursing Education
Objectives:

Examine issues related to the design and conduct
of nursing education research

Describe interrelationships among components
of the NLN’s Science Building Model and how all faculty
can contribute to science development

Discuss the state of the science of nursing
education

Propose scholarly activities that enhance nurse
educators’ specialized knowledge and ability to engage
in evidence-based teaching practices

Explore how various paradigms (scientific,
critical, feminist, postmodern and phenomenological) influence
the nature of research questions posed and methodologies used
-
Examine how the scholarship of teaching and
learning (Boyer) can be used to help one develop expertise in
nursing education
-
Formulate a personal plan to improve and measure
one’s effectiveness as a nurse educator in relation to
building the science of nursing education.

Discuss the advantages of partnering on multi-site,
multi-method, multi-paradigmatic studies related to nursing
education and using one’s network of nursing education
research colleagues to support ongoing pedagogical research
efforts

Examine evidence-based principles to measure
outcomes related to pursuing scholarship in nursing education
