Immersion Experience 2011: Leadership in Nursing Education: A Call to Reform

The NLN Immersion Experience: Leadership in Nursing Education offers an in-depth opportunity, based on the new IOM Future of Nursing report to develop and refine skills and insights that will help you evolve as an educator and leader. This intensive program explores ways to lead transformative changes in nursing education. Bring your own growth objective or that of your school of nursing and commit to completing or making significant progress toward achieving your goal at this year’s Immersion Experience.

Addressing all the Core Competencies for Nurse Educators© and the program offers an opportunity to build excellence in your career and enhance your teaching, leadership and research skills through:

  • Ensuring that the curriculum reflects institutional philosophy and mission, current nursing and health care trends
  • Consultation with experts regarding implementation strategies for leadership development and organizational change
  • Individual guidance to help you integrate innovation into the nursing curriculum
  • Networking with colleagues and leaders in nursing education

Three specialty tracks designed to meet the needs of nurse educators at different stages of career development provide a basis for incorporating best practice methodologies into nursing education.

Track I: Emerging Faculty Leaders: Using New Pedagogies to Facilitate Learning

Track II: New Administrators: Facilitating Rapid Transition into Leadership Roles

Track III: Curriculum Innovators: Integrating Simulation and Gerontology

Objectives:
At the conclusion of the Immersion Experience attendees will be able to:

  • Examine their leadership style(s) to enhance organizational strategy
  • Create innovative programs to achieve academic progression
  • Assume leadership roles in the implementation of educational programs
  • Examine the state of the evidence for innovative curriculum redesign
  • Analyze best practices for advancing the science of nursing education
  • Examine the state of the science of nursing education and issues related to its development
  • Integrate strengths into personal leadership development
