IMMERSION TRACKS
IMMERSION TRACK 1
Emerging Faculty Leaders: Using New Pedagogies to Facilitate Learning
This track is designed for nurse educators who want to explore emerging
theoretical and evidence-based foundations for the design of instructional
strategies and evaluation methods. Participants will discuss the
relationships among a multiplicity of innovative teaching strategies
and consider that varied approaches are required to meet the learning
needs of diverse student populations. Leadership strategies to effect
change will be considered.
Objectives:
- Expand the theoretical and evidence-based foundation from which
teaching/learning and evaluation methods are designed
- Use available evidence to design innovative teaching/learning
strategies, particularly those that will facilitate critical thinking
and clinical judgment
- Appreciate that a multiplicity of evaluation strategies is needed
to provide a complete picture of learners’ abilities
- Explore a variety of innovative and evidence-based means to evaluate
learner outcomes
- Formulate a personal plan to lead evidence-based teaching/learning
and evaluation practices
- Implement a selected learner-centered teaching strategy on an
assigned topic

IMMERSION TRACK 2
New Administrators: Facilitating Rapid Transition into Leadership
Roles
This track is designed for nurse educators who have experienced
a rapid transition to a leadership position. Participants will
examine issues related to organizational systems and leadership
processes and will focus on strategic planning, building high
performance teams, financial management and developing a personal
career plan to advance in organizational leadership.
Objectives:
- Enhance career opportunities by developing strong management
and leadership skills.
- Examine key issues in organizational dynamics.
- Identify ways to develop effective high performing teams.
- Develop the art of negotiation and communication within groups.
- Participate in strategic planning and developing a vision for
your organization.
- Implement an individual plan for leadership development.
- Participate in a group project that creates or
expands leadership skills and present findings at an NLN Summit
or related NLN conference.

I MMERSION TRACK 3
Curriculum Innovators: Integrating Simulation and Gerontology
This track is designed for nurse educators who desire to explore
ways to bring innovative strategies to the nursing curriculum. Participants
will consider evidence based strategies to advance use of simulation
across the curriculum and examine the relationships between unfolding
cases, simulation and integration of gerontology. Leadership approaches
to effect system wide curriculum change will be explored.
Objectives:
- Examine issues related to the integration of gerontology and simulation
innovations in the nursing curriculum
- Discuss the state of the science of simulation and gerontology
- Explore the specialized knowledge and ability to engage in evidence-based
teaching practices related to integration of gerontology and simulation
across the curriculum
- Formulate a personal plan to improve and measure one’s effectiveness
as a change agent to bring innovative practices to a nursing curriculum
- Discuss the advantages of partnering on multi-site, multi-method,
multi-paradigmatic studies related to nursing education and using
one’s network of nursing education research colleagues to
support ongoing pedagogical research efforts in simulation and gerontology
