course will provide an introduction to the principles of teaching.
The course will discuss educational theories, teaching strategies
and learning activities. Participants must have access to a
group of learners and work with a preceptor in a teaching practicum.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Write a teaching philosophy
- Assess learning needs of a group of learners
- Critique a curriculum plan
- Write program, level, and course objectives
- Develop and implement a lesson plan/unit of instruction
- Select teaching strategies and learning activities
- Use AV resources in the classroom
- Facilitate learning for a group of students
- Evaluate own teaching and receive feedback about teaching
from preceptor and course faculty
- Value the roles of learner and educator

Computer Technology for Nurse Educators

This course will acquaint
the participant with a variety of computer technologies that
support the teaching-learning process. The course will discuss
principles of distance learning, use of the Internet in teaching
and learning, and how to integrate computer technologies into
the teaching-learning process. Upon completion of this course,
participants will be able to:
- Identify uses of computer technologies in education
- Critique software for use in teaching and learning
- Integrate software into lesson plans/educational programs
- Use Internet resources to enhance learning
- Identify social, ethical, legal and organizational issues
influencing the use of computer technologies in nursing education
