Facilitate Learning (Core Competency
1):
Moving Beyond Lecture: Principles and Practices of
Active Teaching
What do we know about good teaching practices? What student characteristics
should be considered when selecting instructional strategies? How do we foster
an inspired learning environment? This workshop will explore these questions
as underpinnings for our practice as nurse educators. This speaker presents
a wide variety of instructional strategies that promote learner engagement and
involvement. Demonstrations, small group work, and a variety of exercises will
help participants formulate an individualized plan to incorporate the ideas
presented into personal practice.
Objectives:
- Consider theoretical and behavioral educational approaches
that support active learning
- Analyze the influence of learner characteristics on the teaching/learning
experience
- Explore a variety of instructional strategies that promote learner
engagement
- Formulate a personal plan to integrate active teaching/learning strategies
into academic practice
