Writing for Publication

You’ve outlined your ideas and know what you want to write about, but somehow when you begin to organize your manuscript with the intent of submitting it for publication, you never get any further. Perhaps you’re not sure to which journal to submit your manuscript, or the thought of a rejection letter paralyzes you. So, you hold on to your manuscript. In this session, writing for publication in nursing is described, and helpful hints and resources are provided. The workshop includes the steps in preparing a manuscript, guidelines for selecting an appropriate journal and how it influences your manuscript, writing different types of articles in nursing, the editorial process and how it affects your role as an author, ethical and other issues associated with writing for publication, and how to write as a faculty group.

Objectives:

  • Describe the process of writing for publication in nursing.
  • Identify the steps in preparing a manuscript.
  • Describe guidelines for selecting an appropriate journal and how it influences your manuscript
  • Examine the editorial process and how it affects your role as author
  • Identify ethical and other issues associated with writing for publication
