Task Groups/Task Force

Background:

In its efforts to be a leader in transforming nursing education, the NLN emphasizes the value of diversity and intends to take the lead in developing a nurse educator workforce whose diversity is representative of the US population and who can serve as mentors to and role models for students who represent diverse populations. The many ways this goal can be achieved need to be explored, developed, and embedded in the work of the organization. Four dynamic principles, Caring, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence, articulate the NLN’s mission. The NLN therefore looks to members of this Task Group to provide support as we embark on this new and very important initiative.

Purpose of the Task Group:

The purpose of this Task Group is to initiate efforts aimed at building diversity in the nurse educator workforce, and to compile information on this subject that would inform the academic community.

Specific Tasks to be Completed:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive review of the literature related to diversity in the nurse educator workforce and that of other health professions educators
  2. Add information on the topic of diversity in the nurse educator workforce to the NLN’s literature database in order to expand the collection of evidence on this topic.
  3. Propose mechanisms the NLN could implement to continually monitor diversity in the nurse educator workforce across all types of nursing education programs
  4. Outline a structure or process for the NLN to conduct an internal “audit” of its policies, practices, programs and publications related to its core value of diversity
  5. Submit for NLN publication a comprehensive scholarly synthesis of the literature related to Diversity in the Nurse Educator workforce.

Qualifications of Task Group Members:

  1. Active member of the NLN
  2. Understanding /knowledge of diversity building initiatives in the academic community
  3. Experience in project planning
  4. Experience teaching in nursing
  5. Commitment to diversity in the nurse educator workforce
  6. Access to literature and other sources related to diversity
  7. Writing skills
  8. Technological competence that allows full participation in monitoring an electronic community, searching relevant literature, contributing to the online database, and other activities.
