Background:
The amount of nursing education research being completed is increasing as more scholars recognize the need for evidence-based teaching and as funds are made available to support such efforts. However, reports of these studies are not always readily accessible to faculty and nursing education scholars. The creation of an electronic repository for nursing education research would allow scholars to keep informed of progress of research on specific topics/issues and facilitate the development of needed investigations identified in the NLN Priorities for Research in Nursing Education. The development of the science of nursing education will be enhanced with the availability of a repository of relevant research literature that can be easily searched, allows scholars to build on previous work and extend earlier findings, and identifies needed areas of research. Such a repository would also enhance the use of evidence-based educational modalities in the practice of nursing education.
Purpose:
The Task Group will be expected to develop an electronic resource repository for nursing education literature, particularly that related to research
Specific Tasks to be Completed:
- Develop a thesaurus for an electronic repository for nursing education research literature
- Develop an index for an electronic repository for nursing education research literature
- Develop a format for the electronic repository (citation, abstract, keywords)
- Design a method for scanning the literature for new research in nursing education
- Develop a method for continually adding items to the electronic repository
- Develop a mechanism to continually refine the electronic repository in ways that enhance its use by nurse educators and nursing education scholars
