OLN Strategic Plan for 2015 -Final

 

Mission:  to support and implement the mission of the NLN to promote excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce, at the constituent level.

Goal 1: Promote member support and utilization of the products and services of the NLN.

Promote Nursing Education Standards.

Share Information about NLN educational offerings via meetings and email every two months. Include information regarding certification as a Certified Nurse Educator by the National League for Nursing.

 

 

  • The President or an appointed representative will attend meetings of other organizations (ONA, IONE, OHCWF, etc) and share Information about NLN educational offerings and invite nurses to join OLN.

     

  • At least annually, a BOD will contact schools that are not NLN members to encourage NLN membership and invite faculty to join OLN

Promote Faculty Development Programs.

Give a monetary award to one NLN affiliated school from each level of education, including graduate programs. These awards are to be used for faculty development, preferably using NLN services or products and are awarded annually.

 

Co-sponsor educational offerings for faculty in the state of Oklahoma at least two - three times per year.

 

 

 

 

Sponsor a Spring Educational Workshop or a Dinner and Discussion Evening event.

  • Four awards will be given to one NLN affiliated school from each level of education at the annual meeting in October 2015

     

     

     

     

     

  • OLN will plan to co-sponsor the Oklahoma State Research Day, possibly the Oklahoma Healthcare Workforce Center Simulation Conference and/or the CANE conference offered by IONE.
  • Members will be surveyed during the Annual Membership meeting for their educational needs and desires including location for workshops.A workshop(s) or conference will be planned for 2015 based on the responses.

Promote Nursing Education Research.

Participate in opportunities for research and support research based programs.

  • The Oklahoma Statewide Research Day will be offered in 2015. Offer to co-sponsor this event.

Support collection of Nursing Supply Data.

The President will participate in all of the NLN data collection as requested.

 

  • The President will continue to participate in all of the NLN data collection as requested this past year.

Promote NLN Assessment and Evaluation Tests by providing information to nursing faculties.

 

Share information about NLN educational offerings via meetings and through the OLN website.

Place NLN/OLN links on the IONE website (Institute for Oklahoma Nursing Education)

 

 

Contact educational programs in the state and request that they include a link to the OLN website on their webpage.

  • Will plan to have a booth at either the Oklahoma Healthcare Workforce simulation conference held in spring 2015 or possibly the CANE Conference which IONE presents each summer. Both events attract nurse educators for practice and education settings.

     

  • OLN will have a booth at the Oklahoma Nurses Association annual convention in October 2015.

     

  • Will monitor for other opportunities.
  • Once OLN website is revamped there will be links to the IONE website and ask IONE to have a link for OLN.

     

  • A Board member will collaborate with Oklahoma NLN Ambassadors to assist with this strategy.

     

  • A Board member will contact schools that do not have Ambassadors or are not NLN members & request that their web pages be linked to OLN’s website.

 

Goal 2: Participate in the securing of funds at the local/state level to promote faculty development and quality nursing education at the constituent level.

  • BOD will select and order OLN personalized items with the dual purpose of promoting OLN and raising monies to assist with operations.

Explore opportunities within Oklahoma to recognize outstanding nurse educators.

 

Recognize outstanding nurse educators at the annual meeting.

  • OLN members will be asked to submit nominations for the outstanding nurse educator’s award.OLN Board of Directors will review nomination and selection guidelineswith nomination requests being sent in prior to the annual fall membership meeting. The individual selected as the outstanding nurse educator will be recognized at the annual meeting.

 

Goal 3: Serve as a monitor for public policy related to education of nurses at the constituent level.

  • A request will be made for an OLN member to volunteer to monitor legislative activity; communicate with e-mails when appropriate and post info on OLN website as needed.

Inform OLN members about relevant public policies related to Oklahoma nursing education through electronic and print media.

  • Information on the IOM recommendation/ goal of having 80% of the nurse workforce prepared at the bachelor level or higher by 2020 will be shared during the annual meeting and posted on the OLN website.

     

  • A BOD will be appointed to monitor Oklahoma Board of Nursing policy related activities and to provide a report to the BOD and if appropriate to the general membership. A link to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing website will be placed on the OLN website.

 

Goal 4: Identify, recruit, engage, and develop members for constituent and national leadership work groups and task forces.

Announce constituent and national leadership work groups and task forces through the OLN communication channels.

  • Announcements regarding national NLN leadership work groups and task forces are made and will continue to be made at all meetings attended by board members and during the annual membership meeting.

 

  • OLN website will feature links to NLN publications and synopses of NLN leadership workgroups and task forces.

Appoint OLN consultant to the Oklahoma Nursing Student Association. (ONSA).

 

Appoint OLN consultant to the Oklahoma Nursing Student Association. (ONSA). The consultant is required to be a member of OLN and is required to make reports to OLN. The consultant role is a two year appointment.

 

 

  • In odd numbered years, plan to seek nominations for individuals interested in serving as the OLN consultant to the Oklahoma Nursing Student Association during the annual membership meeting and follow-up with an e-mail request to the general membership if needed.Consultants will begin their role in even numbered years.

Encourage constituent members to participate in leadership roles within the state and national organizations.

  • The President and President-elect will be encouraged to attend the annual NLN Education Summits. OLN will subsidize a portion of the conference costs.Individuals who attend the Summit will share information they have learned during a BOD meeting and will give a report at the annual meeting in October 2015.

     

  • The President will share how BOD members and general members can become involved with NLN leadership and task force groups and OLN committees.

Develop local units within the state of Oklahoma for NLN recruiting purposes as well as OLN individual membership purposes

Goal 5: Develop alliances at the constituent level to advance quality nursing education.

Provide OLN representation on various Oklahoma councils and committees.

 

Members will serve on various councils and committees. OLN will solicit the names of these councils and committees for the purpose of seeing the breadth of OLN representation involvement.

  • BOD & numerous members serve on committees throughout the state. Annually, an electronic request will be sent asking constituents to submit names of councils & committees in which they are members and officers.

 

Explore the development of alliances with other Oklahoma organizations and facilities.

 

OLN will be organizational members of ONA and IONE and other organizations when applicable.

  • OLN will continue to be members of ONA and IONE.

     

  • BOD will be alert for possible alliances with other organizations that advocate quality nursing education.

 

Goal 6: Serve as a channel of communication between NLN and the league’s members, and constituent league members to other constituent league members.

  • The OLN website will be revamped no later than February 1, 2015. Members will be notified via e-mail when site is active.

Distribute an OLN e-newsletter to members at least yearly.

  • A BOD will initiate and maintain contact with the Oklahoma NLN Ambassadors.
  • Schools without Ambassadors will be contacted prior to November of each year to inform them about NLN’s Ambassador initiative and encourage the school to appoint or elect an Ambassador.

     

  • The list of Oklahoma NLN ambassadors will be posted on the OLN website.
