Nursing Education Experience

New York, NY — March 11, 2009 — Building on its success of the two previous years, the National League for Nursing will once again offer Immersion in Evidence-Based Nursing Education, an intensive, dynamic, week-long faculty development conference, hosted by the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, from Sunday, June 7 through Friday, June 12. Participants are invited to immerse themselves in one of three experiences, each designed to give nurse educators an opportunity to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching methods and curricular content, in both classroom and clinical settings, and to advance the scholarship of evidence-based nursing education:


  • Track 1: Building Competence in Evidence-Based Teaching and Evaluation of Learning
  • Track 2: Advancing Competence in Evidence-Based Curriculum Development
  • Track 3: Advancing the Science of Nursing Education

"Today's nurse educators must develop and convey a better understanding of how a sound body of evidence can inform best practices," said NLN CEO Dr. Beverly Malone. "But, that's not always possible during the hectic pace of the semester. These workshops and study sessions with distinguished master faculty will spark discussion and dialogue, and, it is expected, result in a renewed sense of purpose in finding the right pedagogy to fit students' varied learning styles."

Following a similar format to the last immersion conference, there will be active role modeling of teaching/learning strategies, discussion of concept-based curricula, and exploration of research topics related to the science of nursing education. Participants will also engage in individual and group projects over the course of the week.
