NLN Foundation for Nursing Education and Johnson & Johnson "Campaign for Nursing's Future" Faculty Leadership & Mentoring Program Announce 2010-2011 Participants

New York, NY — October 11, 2010 — The NLN Foundation for Nursing Education is pleased to announce that the 2010-11 NLN/Johnson & Johnson Faculty Leadership and Mentoring Program selection process has concluded with naming of this year's participants in the elite faculty development program. Launched in 2007, it aims to transform the future of nursing education through leadership opportunities for nurse educators and by increasing diversity in nursing education.

Each year, five protégés, early to mid-career nurse educators, are paired with five veteran faculty selected as mentors. The application is highly competitive, and matches are carefully made according to the individual interests and experiences of protégés and mentors. Mentors are chosen from among fellows in the NLN's prestigious Academy of Nursing Education, recognized leaders in nursing education.

Between October 2010 and September 2011, protégés will work with their mentors on individual leadership development, as well as work collaboratively as a group on a project to be presented at the 2011 NLN Education Summit in Orlando, Florida.

"The NLN Foundation for Nursing Education is delighted to team up with Johnson & Johnson in its Campaign for Nursing's Future. Our partnership, now in its fourth successful year, has resulted in a model program that will positively affect nursing education, and by extension, nursing practice and patient care, for years to come," said NLN Foundation chair Fran Hicks, PhD, RN, FAAN.

"All of this year's winners in the contest for these coveted spots are to be congratulated," said Dr. Cathie Shultz, NLN president and foundation trustee. "We know from past experience that everyone who has participated in this leadership and mentoring program has found it valuable, mentors as much as protégés." Added NLN and NLN Foundation CEO Dr. Beverly Malone, "Ultimately, it is our students who perhaps benefit most of all from having faculty who care enough to spend time on their own professional development."

The five 2010-2011 protégés are: Darlene Del Prato, PhD, RN, of Syracuse, NY; Theresa Delahoyde, EdD, RN, of Waverly, NE; Claudia Mitchell, PhD, MSN, RN-BC, of Seaman, OH; Jennifer Ortiz, RNC, MS, CNE, of Port Jefferson, NY; and Clarise Ottley, PhD, RN, of Martinsburg, WV.

The NLN Academy of Nursing Education fellows named to provide leadership and expertise as mentors are: Sharon Cannon, EdD, RN, ANEF, of Odessa, TX; Kathie Lasater, EdD, RN, ANEF, of Portland, OR; Jan Nick, PhD, RNC-OB, CNE, of Loma Linda, CA; Deanna Reising, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, ANEF, of Bloomingdale, IN; and Linda Siktberg, PhD, RN, ANEF, of Muncie, IN.
