New York, NY — September 12, 2012 — The National League for Nursing has announced the publication of three books to be distributed by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. All three titles — Hispanic Voices: Progreso, Poder, y Promesa; the second edition of Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation; and the updated edition of The Scope of Practice for Academic Nurse Educators — will be showcased at the upcoming 2012 NLN Education Summit, September 19 - 22 in Anaheim, California.

In the final volume of the NLNs diverse voices in nursing series, a collection of essays communicates a vision for Hispanics in nursing as well as a legacy of commitment, dedication, resolve, and ingenuity in addressing the complex opportunity of educating Hispanic nurses. Edited by Antonia M. Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN and Sara Torres, PhD, RN, FAAN, Hispanic Voices: Progreso, Poder, y Promesa (Progress, Power, and Promise) explores timely issues and offers evidence-based strategies to approach the challenge of the shortage of Hispanics in nursing education. As the nations largest, youngest, and fastest-growing minority, Hispanics are anticipated to account for 74 percent of the growth in the labor force between 2010 and 2020, yet are deeply underrepresented in nursing and nursing education and suffer health disparities and inadequate access to health care.
The Scope of Practice for Academic Nurse Educators, the essential text for those aspiring to earn the credential of Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), has been updated by the Certification Test Development Committee of the NLN Certification Commission. The essential features of this definitive outline of the academic nurse educator role include the definition, historical perspective, values and beliefs, theoretical framework, scope of practice, and competencies/standards of practice of academic nursing education. For this revision, the NLN conducted a nurse educator practice analysis, identifying changes in the job-related responsibilities of the nurse faculty role. The results of the practice analysis resulted in revisions to the nurse educator certification test blueprint. The second edition of Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation, edited by Pamela Jeffries, DNS, RN, FAAN, ANEF, is a wide-ranging text that provides both a foundation for the novice and advanced strategies for the seasoned simulation educator, working in either an academic or clinical setting. Updating the work of the first edition to reflect the most pressing issues and innovations in simulation, it includes two new chapters that address the art of debriefing and integrating patient safety competencies into clinical simulations, describing how to integrate the Quality in Safety for Education in Nursing (QSEN) competencies. Professor and associate dean of academic affairs at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and one of the nations foremost experts in the design and implementation of simulations in nursing education and student outcomes related to simulation, Dr. Jeffries directed the three-year, seminal simulation study by the NLN and Laerdal Medical Corporation.
