bevphoto Dear Colleagues,

East, west, what’s best? You be the judge. In response to your requests for professional development opportunities in different areas of the country, the NLN is excited to present NLN in Your Community, an omnibus offering of theory-based, intensive workshops on topics you, our members, have asked for. We offer new opportunities to fix old problems with excellence in teaching and learning.

Several of these workshops will take place in our hometown of Washington, DC, while others are nearby in Baltimore; to the north in Portland, ME; and across the country in sparkling San Diego. Down the road, the NLN will have offerings in other cities across the country. Think Norfolk, VA, Columbus, OH, New Orleans, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, and Portland, ME.

As noted above, NLN in Your Community events are characterized by excellence, an NLN core value and a hallmark of all our programs and products. That excellence in design and delivery by expert faculty is why the NLN is known far and wide as the gold standard in professional development for nurse educators. We’ve been gold for more than 120 years.

NLN workshops cover subjects of interest to nurse educators along the continuum: from novice to simulation leader to researcher to administrator and on and on. The array of topics is dazzling: debriefing, NLN CNEA accreditation, simulation, research design/proposal development, curriculum mapping, CNE prep, new-faculty intensive, scholarly writing for publication, legal issues for nurse faculty. And, of course, continuing input from you, our members, will inspire new offerings, guided by the faculty and staff of the NLN’s Centers for Nursing Education.

Are you thinking “so many learning opportunities, so little time”? Well, we thought of that and came up with a way to make selection easier. We have built a separate website just for NLN in Your Community offerings. There you can click on cities, topics, or faculty as your jumping off point.

The important thing is to explore. The NLN is accredited as an authorized provider for continuing education by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), so all our workshops offer CE credit. Start with one workshop, and make it a practice to visit the site often.

By the way, spring comes early to Washington, DC. I particularly hope you will join us here. We love welcoming our members and showing you around our beautiful space overlooking the Potomac. And, of course, you’ll never run out of things to see and do. If you’re not a member, it’s a wonderful time to make that move and become an agency, individual, or associate member of the NLN.

Before I close, I have a request to pass on from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation about its nursing policy publication Charting Nursing’s Future. The foundation is considering changes to the format and delivery of the publication, and would value your opinion – whether or not you are a regular reader. Please take a minute to complete this brief survey.

That’s it for today. As always, I’m looking forward to a new day and the opportunity to work with you for a bright future for nursing education and the health of our nation and the global community.

All the best,

Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN
Chief Executive Officer
