Books & Monographs

The National League for Nursing has published books and monographs for more than 50 years. Most of these in the past, and all of these publications today, focus on nursing education issues, faculty role development, curriculum development, program outcomes, innovations in teaching, evaluation methods, test construction, and other topics designed to advance excellence in nursing education.

Historically, the NLN was its own publisher, carried its own inventory of books/ monographs, fulfilled book orders, and offered a standing-order, debit-like program for schools of nursing. In 1998, the NLN entered into an agreement with Jones & Bartlett Publishers wherein they would provide publication services and books would carry the copyright of both the National League for Nursing (NLN Press at the time) and Jones & Bartlett (J&B). The agreement with J&B was terminated in 2002, and the NLN is now examining new approaches to publishing our valuable material.

The termination agreement with J&B left all NLN book inventory in their hands, and they continue to distribute many books published by NLN prior to 1998 or published by NLN/J&B between 1998 and 2002. Please visit the Jones & Bartlett Website to find out which NLN or NLN/J&B books are still available for purchase: http://nursing.jbpub.com. In most instances, when the inventory is depleted, the books will no longer be available. However, there is an option for NLN or J&B to reprint “classics,” and that option can be exercised at any time if there is a demand for certain publications.

You can also click here to learn which NLN and NLN/J&B books are available through Jones & Bartlett Publishers.

Since 2002, the National League has published several books/monographs/research reports, and these are available for purchase. Please click here to learn which books are available through the National League for Nursing.

If you have any questions about NLN books/monographs, please email publications@nln.org. We thank you for your interest in NLN publications, and we look forward to continuing to serve the resource needs of the nursing education community.
