BASIC NURSING CARE I

Purpose: Assesses students' understanding of the fundamentals of nursing care, with an emphasis on utilizing the nursing process. Includes questions on health promotion and prevention, psychosocial health, and professional accountability. Also addresses basic client needs for nutrition, safety, comfort, activity, and rest.
Format: 125 multiple-choice, four-option items. Twenty-five of these items are for experimental purposes and not included in the scoring.
Administration: Schedule after completion of course work in nursing fundamentals as described in the test purpose above. Basic Nursing Care I may be given by itself or in conjunction with Basic Nursing Care II. This test may be administered as a computer-based test (CBT) or paper-based test (PBT). All achievement CBT and PBTs must be administered in a secure, proctored environment unless otherwise directed.
Scoring: A total score and two subscores are provided. Normative data are based on the performance of students in RN programs.
