BASIC NURSING CARE II

Purpose: Assesses students' understanding of the fundamentals of nursing care, with an emphasis on setting priorities and critical thinking. Care of physiological needs (including oxygenation and the maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance) and special needs (including preparation for surgery and diagnostic testing) are included. Also addresses the principles of medication administration.

Format: 125 multiple-choice, four-option items. Twenty-five of these items are for experimental purposes and not included in the scoring.

Administration: Schedule after students' completion of course work in nursing fundamentals as described in the test purpose above. Basic Nursing Care II may be given by itself or in conjunction with Basic Nursing Care I. This test may be administered as a computer-based test (CBT) or paper-based test (PBT). All achievement CBT and PBTs must be administered in a secure, proctored environment unless otherwise directed.

Scoring: A total score and subscores are provided. Normative data are based on the performance of students in RN programs.
