NURSING THE CHILDBEARING FAMILY

Purpose: Assesses students' understanding of concepts basic to culturally competent nursing care of the childbearing family. Focuses on normal events of the childbearing experience, common health problems of mothers and infants, and intrapartal complications. Incorporates relevant items on communication, nutrition, and pharmacology.
Format: 125 multiple-choice, four-option items. Twenty-five of these items are for experimental purposes and not included in the scoring.
Administration: Schedule after completion of course work in maternal-child nursing. This test may be administered as a computer-based test (CBT) or paper-based test (PBT). All achievement CBT and PBTs must be administered in a secure, proctored environment unless otherwise directed.
Scoring: A total score and three subscores are provided. Normative data are based on the performance of students in RN programs.
Antepartal Care: 36 items
Intrapartal and Postpartal Care: 34 items
Fetus and Newborn: 30 items
