Incorporating Telehealth in the Curriculum
This two-day presentation will focus on using the 4Ps Model of Telehealth, a tool developed by the presenter, Dr. Carolyn Rutledge.
By attending this program, you will be given the knowledge and tools to do the following:
- Learn about the different types of equipment used to deliver telehealth
- Outline different models for providing telehealth
- Describe how the 4Ps Framework of Telehealth can be used to develop telehealth services
- Develop a curriculum plan for telehealth
- Outline methods for teaching and evaluating telehealth etiquette, physical assessments, and patient education through telehealth
- Access resources to aid telehealth education
Day 1: Telehealth Overview and How to Prepare Students to Function in this New Environment
This session will describe the history behind telehealth, the impact and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and advancements that are occurring within the field. Two models being used to frame telehealth education will be provided focusing on content that is needed within a curriculum and how the content can be provided. Roles that are now being developed for RNs, APRNs, and administrators/ executives will be outlined.
Day 2: Resources and Techniques for Providing Education on Telehealth
This session will outline different strategies for developing the KSAs required to provide telehealth services. The focus will be on Telehealth Etiquette, Providing Physical Assessments without touching a patient, and providing Patient Education using the 4 Learning Styles. Examples of teaching strategies will include patient simulation, standardized patients, workshops, and projects/learning activities. Participants will be provided with resources to assist in the development of telehealth content within the curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
