LEAD: Emotional Intelligence for Nursing Leaders

It is crucial that nurse leaders realize that emotions foster relationships and trust.  Emotions connect us with others and are the fabric of what makes our lives meaningful.  We must channel our emotions to inspire, motivate, and help others innovate.  We can accomplish this by co-creating healthy workplace environments using emotional intelligence abilities such as the awareness of how you and others feel and recognizing emotions that are being displayed.  It is key as nurse leaders to have knowledge about emotions which requires a high level of EI among leaders and educators.  This presentation will highlight those EI abilities to be a successful nursing leader.

Course Objectives:

  • Define Emotional Intelligence
  • Discern between the ability and mixed models of EI
  • Describe the ability model In depth
  • Identify ways to enhance one's EI abilities to be an effective nursing leader using the ability model.
