Supporting, Empowering, and Advancing Practical/Vocational Nursing Education

The National League for Nursing is proud to introduce a new initiative dedicated to support the vital educators who prepare tomorrow's practical and vocational nurses. Through this initiative, the NLN is shining a light on the needs of academic nurse educators in PN and VN programs by curating resources, developing innovative products, and creating spaces for collaboration and growth. Our goal is to provide visible and meaningful support for PN and VN faculty colleagues, ensuring they have the tools, recognition, and community they need to succeed in shaping the future of nursing.

Who this initiative is for:

  • PN/VN faculty at all career levels
  • Educators transitioning into PN/VN teaching roles
  • Program Directors/Deans and academic leaders

Teaching Smarter, Not Harder: Innovative Instruction, Simulation & AI-Enablers Strategies for PN/VN Educators
May 13, 2026 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (ET)

Practical/Vocational Nursing (PN/VN) faculty are increasingly challenged to engage diverse adult learners while meeting regulatory requirements, supporting student success, and preparing graduates for contemporary clinical practice. This interactive educational activity is designed to address identified faculty practice gaps related to the effective use of innovative teaching strategies, technology integration, and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools in PN/VN education.

Participants will explore learner-centered teaching approaches grounded in adult learning principles and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student engagement and knowledge retention. The session will also introduce accessible technology and introductory AI tools that support instructional design, formative assessment, and student remediation while maintaining academic integrity. Additionally, participants will discuss common faculty-identified barriers and facilitators to implementing innovative teaching, simulation, and technology-enhanced strategies within PN/VN programs.

Emphasis will be placed on practical application and faculty-ready strategies that can be implemented in didactic, laboratory, and clinical learning environments to strengthen educational outcomes and program effectiveness.
