Susan A. Seibert, DNP, RN, CNE
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Empowering the next generation of nurses through education is at the core of my work. From lectures to learning labs, clinicals, faculty meetings, committee work, and curricular revision, I thrive in every aspect of nursing education. My expertise has been recognized widely—I was nominated for the NLN Teacher of the Year award, received Honorable Mention for the Indiana State Nurses Association Pillar Award, was named a Rising Star in Nursing by Sigma Theta Tau, and earned eight nominations for teaching excellence at my institution. As a faculty scholar, my published research, validated teaching tool, and evidence-based teaching strategies have advanced nursing education excellence. With focused degrees in nursing education, CNE certification, and longstanding involvement in the National League for Nursing, I am committed to the core values of excellence, caring, diversity, and integrity. Serving as an officer on the Board of Governors would be an honor and a privilege.
PAST POSITIONS
I am a Teaching Associate Professor with 18 years of teaching experience. While I am dedicated to remaining in teaching roles in academia, my leadership extends across multiple professional organizations, including the NLN. I was appointed to the NLN Constituent League Leadership Committee, led the NLN Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee as Chair, and served as President for the Indiana constituent league. At the state level, I represented nurse educators through service on the Indiana Center for Nursing Board of Directors and the Indiana Nurses on Boards Coalition, where I also serve as faculty for “Get on Board” workshops. My deep involvement in our local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society includes serving as Counselor, Strategic Plan Committee Chair, Recruitment and Engagement Task Force Chair, and Governance Committee Chair. These professional organization roles equipped me with the skills to lead and support initiatives for the Board of Governors.
NLN/LEAGUE ACTIVITIES
My continued longstanding NLN engagement reflects my commitment to advancing nursing education. As noted above, I have actively contributed to the advancement of the NLN mission at the national, state, and local levels. On the Constituent League Leadership Committee, I reviewed annual reports and made recommendations to strengthen leagues. As NLN Foundation Scholarship Committee Chair (two terms) and Vice Chair, I created rubrics to evaluate applications, provided guidance for the review and selection process, and made recommendations to the Board of Governors. During my 15-year involvement in the ILN, I served as President, Board Member, Program Committee Chair, Nominations Committee Chair, Strategic Planning Committee Chair, and Bylaws Committee Member. As Program Committee Chair, I helped secure the NLN Constituent League Award for Innovative Programming. At the regional level, I proudly represented the NLN as an NLN Ambassador, a dean-appointed role I held for five years.
OTHER ACTIVITIES:
Throughout my career, I have actively advanced nursing education through research, mentorship, and leadership. I contributed to a regional healthcare research consortium, serve as a peer reviewer for three professional nursing journals, and have 20 education-focused projects published. As an educational consultant, I have supported nursing programs, departments, and professional organizations with staff development program redesign, dedicated education units, problem-based learning, interactive delegation teaching strategies, and manuscript preparation for professional journals. Within academia, I oversee the nursing peer tutor program and served on the simulation and interprofessional education committees. Committed to faculty development, I mentor new faculty and develop onboarding modules for clinical faculty. To celebrate excellence, I led the initiative to establish the Daisy Faculty and Student Recognition Awards in our nursing programs. Additionally, I serve as a dedicated member of the Southwestern Indiana Nursing Honor Guard, honoring nurses who have passed through memorial services.
EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATIONS:
I earned my BSN from the University of Evansville, followed by both my MSN in Nursing Education and DNP in Organizational and Systems Leadership from the University of Southern Indiana. My DNP project, Creation, Implementation, and Evaluation of a Curriculum Instructing Dedicated Education Unit Staff Nurses in the Art of Clinical Instruction as a Systems Change, was published, contributing to the advancement of evidence-based nursing education. Additionally, I hold the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential, reflecting my commitment to excellence in nursing education and faculty development.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:
I am an active member of several esteemed professional organizations dedicated to advancing nursing education and leadership. My memberships include the National League for Nursing, the Indiana League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing
Honor Society, the Omicron Psi Chapter of Sigma, the American Nurses Association, and Nurses Christian Fellowship. Through these affiliations, I remain deeply engaged in the nursing community, contributing to professional development, mentorship,
and the advancement of evidence-based practice. I have built enduring relationships with nurse educators and practice partners regionally, nationally, and globally. I can leverage this network to promote NLN initiatives.
Paul Smith, PhD, RN, CNE
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am honored to be considered for Chair-Elect of the NLN Board of Governors. My nursing journey began as an ADN-prepared nurse and an educator in an associate degree program, shaping my commitment to accessible, inclusive education. I serve as dean at a liberal arts university in Oregon championing the integration of liberal arts and nursing to develop compassionate, critical-thinking clinicians. I lead through servant leadership grounded in collaboration, integrity, and relationship-building. I co-led Oregon’s first Master’s Entry nursing program and co-investigate a national grant focusing on disability inclusion in nursing—reflecting my vision and commitment to diversity. Committed to student and faculty success, I strive to expand the NLN’s reach on the West Coast. It would be an honor to contribute my strategic vision, inclusive leadership, advocacy for diversity, and passion for lifelong learning to Board in support of the NLN’s mission and the advancement of nursing education.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am currently a graduate faculty member at Lewis University, in Romeoville, IL, where I have the privilege of educating the next generation of nurse leaders. In 2024, I was honored to receive the Sigma Constance Hall Scholarship Award and the IDHE Nurse Educator Fellowship Award. I currently serve in several statewide leadership roles, including Vice President of the Illinois Nurses Foundation and Treasurer of the Illinois Association of Colleges of Nursing. Additionally, I’m an active NLN Awards Committee Member and serve on the editorial committee for the ANA Illinois Nursing Voice quarterly publication.
In addition to my DNP and MBA degrees, I bring a strong foundation in both academic nursing and executive leadership, holding dual certifications as a Certified Nurse Educator and Nurse Executive Advanced-Board Certified. I am honored to be considered for the National League for Nursing Secretary role and would greatly appreciate your support and vote.

Martha Scheckel, PhD, RN, CNE
PERSONAL STATEMENT
My nursing career spans over three decades. I served as a community/public health nurse for rural and underserved communities and as a faculty member and academic leader. Following successive academic leadership positions, I am now vice dean at The Catholic University of America. In this role, I founded the Center for Future Faculty, collaborating with three D.C.-based nursing schools to prepare a diverse and inclusive group of ethical nurse educators who are grounded in the shared values of respect for the dignity of the individuals, families, and communities whom we serve. My academic leadership has resulted in disseminating nursing education scholarship globally, including completing the foundational literature review for Nurse Educator Competencies: Creating an Evidence-Based Practice for Nurse Educators, being invited to contribute to NLN Core Competencies for Nurse Educators: A Decade of Influence, and contributing five-times to the award-winning, seminal book Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:
I fully support the NLN mission and values and consider it an honor to be a candidate for the Board of Governors. Service in this role will enable me to bring my voice and expertise to efforts to accomplish the organization's desired goals. I have been engaged in service activities with the NLN for a number of years and look forward to continuing to contribute to advancing the organization's work as a Governor. The NLN is distinguished by shining a light on the impact nurses and nurse educators make in the health and well-being of a diverse society, supporting nurses in all practice areas, and leading initiatives on behalf of the nursing profession. PERSONAL STATEMENT:
My nursing career centers on leadership, advocacy for vulnerable populations, professional development, and education. Teaching and mentoring fuel my passion for lifelong learning and growth. As a first-generation college graduate, I am driven to support others on their professional journeys by fostering a culture where every healthcare employee feels valued and supported. I believe that when we care for our colleagues, we ultimately enhance patient outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based care. I continuously seek opportunities for improvement and growth, turning challenges into strengths. The classroom should be a safe, inclusive, and caring space that honors diversity and encourages the free exchange of ideas. Each student brings unique strengths, and every course offers new opportunities for mutual learning. Faculty and students grow together. To ensure an equitable and compassionate healthcare system, we must lead boldly, embrace innovation, and model the care we wish to see reflected in practice.
PAST POSITIONS:
Jennifer Vaughn currently serves as Executive Assistant Dean of Administration/Associate Professor (2021-present) at Upstate University College of Nursing, where she oversees the DNP and Undergraduate Programs, supports accreditation efforts, leads strategic
planning, mentors students, recruits faculty and students, and teaches across programs. She also plans events, leads departmental projects, and contributes to research and committee work. Previously, she served as Director of the DNP Program (2019-2021),
leading program development, maintaining accreditation, and chairing policy initiatives. She also instructed students across academic levels and supported Magnet Designation efforts. Before that, she was Director for Professional Practice and Innovation
(2015-2019) at Upstate University Hospital, where she led quality improvement initiatives, managed operational and financial planning, supported Magnet standards, oversaw professional development, and served as a primary investigator on research and
evidence-based practice projects. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence in nursing education, leadership, innovation, and student success.

Jennifer has maintained active involvement with the National League for Nursing (NLN) and its Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA), reflecting her commitment to advancing nursing education quality and leadership. She currently serves on the NLN CNEA Nominations Committee (2023–2025), contributing to the identification and selection of national leaders in nursing accreditation. Additionally, she has participated in NLN conferences and applies NLN core values—caring, integrity, diversity, and excellence—in her administrative and academic roles. Her contributions to the League underscore her dedication to the development of nurse educators and the promotion of equitable, high-quality nursing programs nationwide.

Jennifer Vaughn is actively engaged in wide range of professional initiatives beyond teaching and leadership, contributing meaningfully to institutional advancement, research, and innovation. She has chaired and served on numerous committees at the College
of Nursing and Upstate Medical University, including Academic Affairs, Strategic Planning, Faculty Council, and the DNP, Policy, and Admissions Committees. Vaughn has successfully led curriculum development, including the forthcoming master’s
in nursing education and ABSN programs. A skilled grant writer, she serves as PI for a $2.8 million HRSA-funded Nurse Practitioner Residency Program (2023–2027) and has submitted competitive regional and national grants. She also leads or contributes
to projects like website redesign, strategic communication, accreditation preparation, and student/faculty events. Her regional and national service includes elected roles with Sigma Theta Tau and NLN CNEA. Known for her strategic thinking and execution,
Vaughn excels in project management, educational innovation, quality improvement dissemination, and collaborative academic planning.

Jennifer T. Vaughn earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Healthcare Systems Leadership from Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2018. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing Education (2011) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2009) from Keuka College, as well as an Associate Degree in Nursing from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing (2002). She is a Certified Nurse Educator through the National League for Nursing (2022) and an ANCC Certified Nurse Executive (2014). Additional certifications include National Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing (ANCC), Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt, Emotional Intelligence Certified Trainer (2018), Emergency Management Preparedness (2019), and CPR/BLS (Red Cross). Jennifer Vaughn maintains active involvement in several professional and community organizations that reflect her dedication to nursing excellence and advocacy. She has been a member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) since 2008 and the
National League for Nursing (NLN) since 2021. Inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Omicron Chapter in 2010, she currently serves as Vice President. Vaughn contributes her expertise as an ANCC Nurse Executive Board Certification content expert and item writer
(2022), and she reviews podium presentation abstracts for the CCNE Doctoral Education Conference (2023) and SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (2023). Her commitment to community service includes serving on the board of the Determination

My professional activities and passions align with the mission, vision, and core values of the NLN. As a nurse educator, I am dedicated to fostering excellence in nursing education, ensuring students are equipped to provide exceptional care in all circumstances. My focus has been on pre-licensure students, future nurse educators, instilling in them enthusiasm for caring, integrity, excellence, and diversity. I have contributed to curriculum development, quality improvement in student testing, and innovative clinical teaching strategies, sharing these insights through publications and presentations. My commitment to student success includes supporting diverse learners, such as through the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Peer Mentor program. My research explores nursing education and diversity, including studies on students repeating courses. Through service on the board of my state’s NLN constituent league and university committees, I actively advance NLN’s mission and values. I am passionate about nursing education and support NLN’s leadership in the profession.

With a distinguished career spanning clinical nursing, academic instruction, and leadership in nurse education, I have dedicated myself to advancing excellence in healthcare and nursing education. Beginning as a staff nurse and charge nurse in neuroscience at Millard Fillmore Hospital, I developed expertise in neuropharmacology research and case management before transitioning to neurology nursing and medical resident coordination at Dent Neurologic Institute. At Duke University Hospital, I served as staff nurse and preceptor in both the Neuroscience ICU and Emergency Department.
Transitioning into academia, I contributed as an instructor at Watts School of Nursing and as a clinical instructor and teaching assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 2017, I have been a faculty member at Duke University School of Nursing, first as an assistant clinical professor and now as an associate clinical professor. My career reflects a passion for education, mentorship, and advancing nursing practice.

I have been actively engaged in the National League for Nursing (NLN) and the North Carolina League for Nursing (NCLN), contributing to the advancement of nursing education through leadership and service. As a dedicated NLN member since 2007, I have participated in key initiatives, including serving on the Scholarship Review Panel from 2022 to 2025, where I have evaluated applications aligned with NLN’s core values.
Within the NCLN, I have held leadership roles that support nursing educators statewide. Dr. Heather Mangino is the Director of the Second Degree Accelerated Program in Nursing and a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Department of Nursing at University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut. Her active research agenda includes 1.) The experiences of students with mental health conditions in undergraduate nursing programs 2.) Universal Design for Learning and its role in undergraduate nursing curricula. 3) Using simulation in undergraduate prelicensure nursing programs to teach patient advocacy and communication skills to facilitate courageous conversations. Dr. Mangino is the recipient of the 2023 Hartford Healthcare's Nightingale Excellence in Nursing Award, which is one of Connecticut's most prestigious nursing honors. She is also the recipient of the 2020 Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Saint Joseph.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:
Adrian Stamps is an Associate Professor and the Curriculum Coordinator for the Accelerated BSN Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Stamps is seeking the opportunity to serve in the role of Certification Commissioner. In addition to the knowledge gained through test development and item writing for the National League for Nursing, her professional background and service experience have prepared her for this position. As a Curriculum Coordinator, she serves as a leader in test item development and evaluation and effectively guides her peers to both adhere to and modify testing and exam policies and procedures. Furthermore, Dr. Stamps has experience serving as a Board Member for several organizations and understands that a Board position brings responsibilities, such as required attendance at all Board meetings and committee work. She is detail-oriented, timeline driven, and reliable, all attributes that make her well suited for the role of Certification Commissioner.
PAST POSITIONS:
Of most relevance to the role of Certification Commissioner, Dr. Stamps has served as a Board Member for two nonprofits and has engaged in extensive committee work within those organizations. Dr. Stamps has served as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Texas League for Nursing representing her commitment to the National League for Nursing’s mission, vision, and core values. She has also served as the Chair of program initiatives, such as the Exam Review Taskforce, which had similar responsibilities to that of the National League for Nursing’s Certification Commission.
