Dr. Altmiller is professor emerita and director of the Quality and Safety Innovation Center at The College of New Jersey. She also serves as a clinical nurse specialist consultant for the Jefferson Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia. A nurse educator for more than 25 years, she served on the QSEN Advisory Board for over a decade and was a national consultant on integrating quality and safety into nursing curricula. She authored the Teamwork and Communication module for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s Transition to Practice program and received the Lindback Award for distinguished teaching in 2014. For seven years, she led the QSEN Academic Task Force, supporting collaboration and research among 120 faculty members. Her work on constructive feedback produced widely used tools for educators and students. Dr. Altmiller also authored the competency‑based education chapter in Teaching in Nursing and consults nationally on competency‑based curriculum and assessment. Her research focuses on clinical evaluation, quality and safety, just culture in academia, and communication in education and practice environments.
