Program Overview

The NLN Social Determinants of Health & Social Change Leadership Academy equips nurse educators and interprofessional colleagues to lead transformative change in education, practice, and policy. Now in its fifth cohort, this year-long, immersive experience continues to build on the program's growing impact and community of leaders.  Participating scholars gain the tools and strategies needed to integrate social and structural determinants of health (SSDOH) into curricula, drive health equity initiatives, and prepare future healthcare professionals to address systemic challenges.

 

Why This Program Matters

The NLN Social Determinants of Health & Social Change Leadership Academy addresses some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare today. Participating scholars will gain the skills to influence systems, address disparities, and prepare the next generation of professional to deliver equitable care in diverse communities.

Who Should Apply

This program is designed for:

  • Nurse educators and academic leaders
  • Interprofessional healthcare educators and practitioners
  • Individuals with experience in teaching, research, policy, or service
  • Professionals committed to advancing health equity and social change
Participants should demonstrate a strong interest in integrating SDOH into education, practice, or leadership initiatives.

 

Program Details

Program Duration: January 11 – December 10, 2027

The structure is designed to support ongoing development, collaboration, and growth throughout the year.

What to Expect/Program Activities:

  • Complete leadership assessments 
  • Complete an individual year-long leadership project – full details provided at the Orientation
  • Participate in 90-minute monthly webinars/ group coaching calls throughout the program (begin after Orientation)
  • Attend the Orientation Meeting in Washington, DC; Mon-Tues; TBD (late January or early February 2027)**
  • Attend the Mid-Year Retreat in Washington, DC: Sun - Weds; TBD (June or July 2027)**
  • Attend the 2027 NLN Education Summit in Phoenix, Arizona, September 16-18 (not required, but recommended)

**Participants are responsible for travel, lodging costs, and NLN Summit registration
