Dr. Gwen Sherwood is Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing where she was Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and founding Associate Dean for Global Initiatives. She is a leading voice advancing reflective practice stemming from her role in establishing patient safety as core curriculum in nursing. She was co-PI for launching QSEN, the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses project developing a competency model to improve quality and safety spread globally. In addition to publishing Quality and Safety for Nurses: A Competency Approach to Improve Outcomes, she has co-edited three books and a companion self-guided workbook on reflective practice used globally. Her background in caring science threads through her work emphasizing person-centered approaches, creating well-being work environments, and integrating interprofessional teamwork across the health professions. Numerous awards highlight her work including an Honorary Doctorate from Jonkoping University in Sweden, and Fellow Ad Eundem at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (RCSI).
