Dr. Maureen J. Baker, PhD, RN, CHSE, is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing, where she also serves as Director of the EmpowerEd program and is recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator. Her clinical background includes liver and kidney transplantation, cardiothoracic intensive care, and occupational health nursing. Dr. Baker’s work focuses on patient engagement, health advocacy, and innovative approaches to nursing education. She teaches a freshman seminar that prepares students to actively engage in their healthcare, navigate complex health systems, and advocate for their own wellness and that of others. Through her leadership in integrating technology into education, she advances student-centered learning, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based practice to prepare future nurses for a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
