Program Overview

The NLN Social Determinants of Health & Social Change Leadership Academy equips nurse educators and interprofessional colleagues to lead transformative change in education, practice, and policy. Through a year-long, immersive experience, participants gain the tools and strategies needed to integrate social determinants of health (SDOH) into curricula, drive health equity initiatives, and prepare future healthcare professionals to address systemic challenges.

Participants should demonstrate a strong interest in integrating SDOH into education, practice, or leadership initiatives.

 

Program Details

Program Duration: January 11 – December 10, 2027

The structure is designed to support ongoing development, collaboration, and growth throughout the year.

What to Expect/Program Activities:

  • Complete leadership assessments (e.g., CliftonStrengths and Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument)
  • Complete an individual year-long leadership project – full details provided at the Orientation
  • Participate in 90-minute monthly webinars/ group coaching calls throughout the program (begin after Orientation)
  • Attend the Orientation Meeting in Washington, DC; Mon-Tues; TBD (late January or early February 2027)**
  • Attend the Mid-Year Retreat in Washington, DC: Sun - Weds; TBD (June or July 2026)**
  • Attend the NLN Education Summit in Phoenix, Arizona, September 16-18 (not required, but recommended)

**Participants are responsible for travel, lodging costs, and NLN Summit registration
